Hexagram 36
Hexagram 36: Darkening Light
明夷 (Míng Yí)
Concealing one's light during times of darkness and oppression.
Overview
Until now, every step forward asked you to build up your own knowledge and experience. You had to choose a promising direction and get better at what you do.
But you cannot climb all the time. Sooner or later a moment of decline comes, a moment of rest. This sign tells you that you have already reached the top of the climb, and for now there is no way further up.
What should you do? You cannot simply stand still. That would bring your affairs to a halt and take away your confidence.
The answer is this: there is no defeat here, only a need to go down a little, so that on the way up again you do not lose touch with the people around you.
If you act against this warning, you will gain nothing and you can lose much. Do not break the natural course of events. After every rise there is a fall. Do not panic about it.
People around you
The point of stepping down is to help the people who have not yet risen to your level. Do not let this make you proud, and do not let it turn into self-pity ("I am not ready, I cannot do it").
Until now you have not been attentive to what the people around you need and worry about. Look around, and you will find plenty to do.
Work
Take this advice and put your work in order. Do not get caught up in your own needs. Do not be afraid of being late. The slower you go now, the further you will get, and that fits your situation exactly.
Your friends and colleagues helped you in their time. Now you can support those who need it.
Look around you with open eyes. You can take your interests beyond the narrow circle of personal gain.
For a while you will seem to be standing in one place. But soon you will move toward your goal again.
Your wish
Your wish is delayed a little, for reasons that do not depend on you. For now, deal with the side matters, which are no less important.
Do not drop the work you have already started. Everything will go as you planned and will bring you much joy in the end. Wait for the right moment.
